Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Swerdlin Company provides actuarial, consulting, administrative, and recordkeeping services for all types of retirement, health, and cafeteria plans to clients nationwide. We commit to building long-term relationships by getting to know you and your business needs.

Over three decades of success

Swerdlin Company was founded on April 1, 1980 in Atlanta, Georgia by Dorn and Joanne Swerdlin. Prior to starting his own company, Dorn worked as an actuary for one of the nation’s largest accounting firms. His vision was an actuarial firm to accommodate the needs of small to mid-size companies. From humble beginnings with three employees and a 500 square foot office, the company has grown to be one of the country’s premier actuarial, consulting and third party administration firms with offices in Atlanta, Georgia and Holliston, Massachusetts.

Our people are our difference

Today, we have a staff of over eighty professionals, including five credentialed actuaries, two of whom are Fellows of the Society of Actuaries, two attorneys, and thirty client relationship managers. Our employees have earned designations through the Society of Actuaries and the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA).

Stability and expertise

Our client relationship managers average sixteen years in the industry and more than ten years with Swerdlin. We are active in industry specific organizations including National Institute of Pension Administrators (NIPA), ASPPA, The ESOP Association, National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO), the Atlanta ASPPA Benefits Council (ABC), Women In Pensions and, Worldwide Employee Benefits Networks (WEB).

We service over 1,000 benefits plans, including 401(k), 403(b), 457, ESOP, KSOP, DB Pension, Cash Balance, SERPs, Cafeteria Section 125, and HRAs.

Dorn Swerdlin, CEO

Dorn, a founder of the firm, is involved extensively in client relations, strategic planning and new business development. Dorn has over 35 years experience in the retirement plan industry. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries where he serves on the Actuary of the Future Section Council and the Election Committee. Dorn is also a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary as well as a member of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA), the National Association of Pension Administrators, and The National ESOP Association.

Lee Swerdlin, President and COO

Lee joined the firm in 1998 as an entry level Benefits Assistant. Over the years he has become heavily involved in new business development and client relations. Lee works closely with the daily recordkeeping and ESOP administration teams. Lee was instrumental in the acquisition of Penret in Hollistion, Massachusetts in early 2011 and QPA in August of 2013. He continues to pursue other opportunities to further expand our firm. He is a member of the Southern Employee Benefits Conference, The National ESOP Association and serves as President of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA).

Joanne H. Swerdlin, Executive Vice President

Joanne is a co-founder of the firm. Involved in new business development and client relations, she has over 30 years experience in the retirement plan industry. Joanne served on the Board of the New South Chapter of The National ESOP Association, a past officer of National Women in Pensions, Inc. (WIPs), and Immediate Past President of the Atlanta chapter of the national organization Worldwide Employee Benefits Network (WEB). She is also a past Board Member of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.

Glenda Gine, Senior Vice President of Operations and Finance

Glenda, a principal of the firm, works closely with other members of the Leadership Management Team on strategic planning, employee relations and staffing needs. She oversees the corporate financial staff at Swerdlin as well as the Human Resources Department. She is also responsible for cafeteria plan services, financial reporting and operations. Glenda joined Swerdlin Company in 1995. Prior to that, she was a management executive in the real estate field for over 15 years.

David Benoit, General Counsel, and Director of Compliance Services

David is a nationally recognized expert in the area of employee benefits and related tax law. He has spoken at national seminars and written for multiple publications and periodicals on the topics of health and welfare plans, qualified retirement plans, fiduciary compliance, and related litigation. David has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2012, 2013, and 2014 editions of The Best Lawyers in America® in the practice area of Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law. David received his J.D. degree from the University of California Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) and his BSFS from Georgetown University.

Susan Petrirena, Business Development Consultant and ESOP Client Relations

Susan is the Senior Consultant primarily responsible for ESOP client relations and the continued growth of ESOPs at Swerdlin. Susan managed the Defined Contribution team at Swerdlin for many years. She entered the field of employee benefits over 30 years ago and has extensive experience in all types of retirement plans, including ESOPs, 401(k), 457, and nonqualified. She is a member of the Administrative Committee of the National ESOP Association and is active in the NCEO. She is a frequent speaker at ESOP conferences, both locally and nationally. Susan earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida.
